What a GREAT day!

Well, Hus-ski owners from far and wide, tons of Vintage Sledders descended on Alliston!  Our estimates are 275 sleds, and about 600 people enjoying the ride for the day.  The day started off with a squall off the bay, but quickly cleared to give us sunshine.  The races went great, both the slalom and radar runs.

We have already begun planning next years vintage ride!

Arrivals.....

Preparations are in the final stages.  Several Hus-Skis and Diablos have arrived!

This picture says it all!

Though we expect at least 150 "regular" vintage sleds, the Hus Ski group is celebrating their 50th Anniversary, and these guys are coming from far and wide. Estimates are up to 100 will be at the Snowsquall Live Vintage Ride!! Web site chatter reveals that they are packed and ready to go.

Roy, ready to roll from Gatineau, Quebec!

Dan the Man, heading for Alliston from Shilo, Manitoba!

....and Bruce loaded and ready in Suamico, Wisconsin!

Word on the web is that Alex Lamore has arranged a covoy from the Kawartha Lakes area.  It looks like 7-8 trucks and trailers heading in together.  If you are heading in from that part of Ontario and are up for hitting the road 5:30 Saturday morning, find Alex and the gang on www.acscc.com.

Final Preperations Underway....

I spent the weekend out and about with my little helpers, placing signs for the ride.  Please watch for signs that indicate the parking areas, which will be manned (womaned?) by the helpful parking and registration elves, who will get you to sign the waiver, pay the $20 fee, and get you parked and ready to start your day with us.

The basic trails will be groomed to help you navigate the area that we are able to ride.  Much has been "loaned" to us by neighbouring farms to allow much more riding area than usual.   Most fields with trails groomed into them can also be ridden freely, allowing you to bust your own trail....the groomed areas are to just help you get familiar with which fields are able to be used.

In the area marked "VIEW HILL"  please avoid any areas where the vegitation is visible through the snow cover.  This is a great riding area with amazing views (take note shutterbugs!)  But this year there is winter wheat under the snow, and our neighbour who kindly lets us ride there has requested that we not damage the crop by riding where the snow is thin (it tends to blow off the very top of the hill)

Sleds can be dropped off ahead of time at the ride, Saturday morning the gates for the parking areas will open at 8am.  Grab a hearty breakfast, and come start a great day of riding with us!

Mt. Brighton Snowmobile Hill climb '08

We have been giving some thought to adding some new winter race events....have a few feelers out to private ski clubs to renting a run for a weekend. I was just looking to see if there would be enough interest to make a Hill Climb race feasible....There would be vintage and newer machine classes....check out this vid for the general idea of the races, and let me know your opinion. Would there be interest in an event like this?

Ready to Roll!

February 12, 2011-Alliston, Ontario

Snowsquall Live Vintage Ride is ready to roll!  The snow cover is great, and the races await!  A new bridge over the creek has opened up twice as much riding space as previous years.

This year we have special guests.  HUS-SKI is celebrating their 50th Anniversary, and have decided to join us for the day!  HUS-SKIs from far and wide are descending on Alliston for the weekend.  A special display will be on site, including all models of the HUS-SKI/Diablo line.  If you have never seen these snow machines, they are really different from a traditional snowmobile.

A block of rooms has been reserved at the Red Pine Inn, as well there is a Meet and Greet with food and drinks at the Red Pine Conference Center, Friday, February 11, from 5-10pm.  Just mention “Vintage Ride” and you’ll get the preferred rate of $100/night at the Red Pine.

After the success last year, the Radar Runs and the Sled Slalom return!  Test your speed on the radar runs, and your agility on the slalom course.  This year you can run the course in a timed single run, as well as snow cross style, 4 at a time as a race.

Gates open at 8am, and the event runs til sundown.  Coffee is on hand, and lunch will be available from 11am to 2pm.

Riders over 14 must carry our liability insurance, at a cost of $20 for the day.  Riders under 14 are insured under their parent, but must have a waiver signed by their parent.  Parking attendants will register you and have you sign the waiver as you arrive.

Come out and enjoy a full day of Vintage Sledding!  For those with passes, OFSC Trail 424 is accessible from our location!

See You There!!

Bridge is Complete!

We finished the bridge over the creek on the weekend!  We have now doubled our space for riding!
Check out what happens when I have a day off, and am left alone with the kids markers!  Our trail map!  Can't wait to see these trails filled with people for the 3rd Annual Snowsquall Live Vintage Ride!
